On Sunday evening I felt like getting some exercise. I had eaten a lot of dessert that day, and the only exercise I got was a little bit of frisbee at Huffnagle Park, so I had a good amount of energy. The only problem was that no one wanted to go on a walk or a run with me. So I decided to go outside and walk around my grandparents' back yard.
I looked up in the sky and saw ...
a hot air balloon!
I ran back inside and told everyone to come outside and look. In Quarryville you hardly ever see anything in the sky other than clouds, so the balloon in itself was really cool. And it was pretty ... even prettier than the one in the photo.
A little later, Dad went out back and suddenly called in, "It's landing in Huffnagle Park!"
So of course we all took off running towards the park. Dad, Wes, Ben, and I got out of the house first and ran ahead of everyone else. In a minute we were at the park. We realized that it wasn't landing there but somewhere in the distance, and there was a second balloon also. So we kept running. We ran through people's driveways, up streets, and across parking lots, catching glimpses of the first balloon every once in a while as it got lower and lower. A bunch of other people thought the balloon was quite interesting too ... they came out of their houses and started walking or driving towards the balloon.
Finally we saw it about to land in a field behind the "home" where Grandma and Grandpa work (the
Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community). Rosemary, Ethan, Christianne, and Grandma caught up to us and we watched it land. It was so cool.
That was the oddest thing that happened while I was there. Dad called it "the biggest happening in Quarryville in a decade."
